Eligible Criteria for Assistant and Sub-Assistant Engineer Recruitment at Kolkata Municipality:
Educational Qualification :
1. Assistant Engineer :
*Essential – A degree in Civil
Engineering of a recognized
University or its equivalent.
*Desirable: i) One year’s post
Graduate practical training or
study or research or practical
Engineering experience.
ii) Passing the Examination
of ‘O’ level in Computer
application approved by
AICTE.
2. Sub Assistant Engineer :
*Essential – i) A Diploma in
Civil Engineering from the
State Council for
Engineering or Technical
Education or its equivalent.
ii) One year’s practical
Training or studying or
research or practical
engineering experience in the
Municipal Engineering work.
Age Limit :
1. Assistant Engineer : Age not more than 37
years as on 1st January,
2016.Upper age
concession upto 5 years is
relaxable only to SC/ST
candidates and upto 3
years to OBC(A&B)
candidates of West
Bengal.Such benefits are
also available upto 45
years for Physically
Handicapped Candidates.
The upper age limit for
KMC employees

For Post No. 1 : Pay scale : 15,600- 42,000/- with grade pay 5,400

Selection Process of Assistant and Sub-Assistant Engineer (Civil) at Kolkata Municipality :
The recruitment examination will be held in two stages. 1. Written Test 2.PersonalityTest.
- 1. Written Test :- (200 marks) OMR based written examination of multiple choice, Objective type of 100 questions carrying 2 (two) marks each will be conducted. There will be negative marking and 1(one) mark will be deducted for each and every incorrect / wrong answer. Question will be set in English and time allowed will be 2 (two) hours.
- 2. Personality Test/Interview (40 marks) :- Candidates about 3(three) times of the vacancy will be called on merit basis for Personality Test/Interview, Subject to obtaining qualifying marks @ 45% for General Candidates, 40% for O.B.C. Candidates and @ 35% for S.C. & S.T & Physically Handicapped Candidates. However, the Commission reserves the right to relax the qualifying marks of candidates depending upon the situation. Final merit list will be prepared on the basis of total marks obtaining in the written examination and personality test/interview.
